Attractions

While you're in the neighborhood, why not sample some of the delights Kansas City has to offer? Kansas City is only half an hour away from Deer Creek Golf Club and the hotel we've reserved for you. Here are a few places you could visit:

Like many big cities, Kansas City is broken up into several named "districts," each with a different vibe. Kate and I live in the Plaza, which is known for its Spanish-influenced architecture, many fountains, shops and restaurants. You should totally go there! And make sure to check out KC's famous barbecue while you're at it. We personally recommend Jack Stack!

You could also visit Crown Center. It's sort of like a giant, indoor mall: there's lots of shops and restaurants to visit here, as well. There are also several live theaters, activities for children, and a rink for ice skating. Union Station, a historic train station that was renovated in recent years to house numerous exhibitions and a children's science museum, is just a brief jaunt across The Link!

The Power and Light district is another of our shopping and entertainment districts, and features the Sprint Center, an arena for concerts and sporting events, and the Midland Theater. It's sort of the hip new district in town, but there isn't much to see unless you have tickets to something and don't mind paying for parking.

Finally, if you want to go bar crawling, that's pretty much what Westport is known for. It's sort of got a college-town vibe, which isn't too surprising considering its close proximity to UMKC.
